Why We Love Golden Retrievers

The American Kennel Club classifies the American Golden Retriever (also known as the Spanish Greyhound) as a “herd” breed. This is because these dogs are supposed to be used in herding activities, and not for hunting. Herd dogs were originally bred for herding purposes, and they possess the same characteristics of other herding breeds. These dogs also have good eyesight, dependable temperament and a naturally high level of energy.  The also are excellent house dogs and make wonderful pets.

Raising A Golden Retriever

The American Golden Retriever

The American golden retriever is a medium-sized gun dog that was originally bred to hunt waterfowl, including ducks and geese, during duck and hunting parties. The word “retriever” refers to the dog’s ability to retrieve captured game quickly due to their remarkable soft mouth. This makes them an excellent choice for hunters who like to practice hunting from the elements. However, the American golden retriever can suffer from some health conditions. These health conditions include bloat, patellar luxation, heartworms, hypothyroidism, skin allergy, flea bite dermatitis, ear infections, and patellar luxation.

Goldens are extremely loyal and devoted pets. They can be loving and affectionate towards children and other animals, but they are prone to having certain eye issues. These dogs will often have eye problems such as conjunctivitis, trachoma, and cataracts, but they can still see well. Goldens are very active and intelligent breeds, and they make great companions.

Breeds of dogs such as golden retrievers have a high tendency to develop allergies. This is because they are highly sensitive to anything that they may come in contact with. The saliva of these breeds of dogs can contain either one or more chemicals that can irritate the skin, which can cause different types of skin allergies such as atopic dermatitis and contact dermatitis. Because they are so susceptible to allergies, it is important to brush your golden retrievers frequently, especially when they are puppies.

Your Golden Will Need Plenty Of Exercise To Stay Healthy

These dogs are very energetic and they need plenty of exercise. Because of their eagerness to please their owners, they can get bored easily and they need vigorous exercise. People who want to own goldens should ask for advice from pet experts, and also ask other pet owners where they got their pets from.

It is important to take good care of your golden retriever in order to keep him happy and healthy. You can brush his teeth once or twice a week, and you can give him vitamin supplements regularly. However, these are only aids; it is very important to prevent heart disease and diabetes in your dogs. So, get to know more about the health problems of golden retrievers and learn how to treat them properly.  Talk to your vet and get some good ideas about dog food.  Goldens are not picky eaters but you will want to make sure that you give them the proper food.
